Deze afwijking is niet alleen een estetisch probleem die opgelost kan worden door enkel een operatie, een multidisciplinair team van (gezondheids)professionals is nodig om de vele bijkomende&nbsp; problemen te verhelpen of verlichten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cleft palate causes difficulties with speech, hearing and feeding, as well as psychological problems. There is an urgent shortage of programs in Peru that offer complete treatment, which means that children living in poverty with cleft palate do not receive the necessary care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 1995, San Lucas Peru has had a program for children with cleft palate that organizes 1 or 2 surgery weeks each year to help children with these abnormalities free of charge.
